The England worldwide scored two sensational free kicks to steer Arsenal to a 3-0 win over Madrid within the first leg of their Champions League quarterfinal.
Within the leadup to the primary free kick, Jover was seen motioning Rice to whip the ball. Given the coach’s outsized affect on Arsenal’s setpiece productiveness this season, it was assumed Jover was the one who suggested Rice to bend his shot across the wall. Nonetheless, the 26-year-old stated he was telling him the alternative.
“He [Jover] is telling me to cross. It did not make sense. I am comfortable I took it. Bukayo stated, ‘If you happen to really feel it, go for it.’ I regarded on the wall and the keeper and thought, ‘I can bend this across the outdoors,'” Rice stated post-match.
“It has been within the locker, however I’ve hit the wall too many instances or it is gone over the bar. Initially we have been going to cross it and I’ve simply seen the wall and goalkeeper’s place. So I assumed simply go for it.
