Borno State Governor, Babagana Umara Zulum, has known as on African leaders to transit from rain-fed agriculture to climate-smart and irrigation-based farming programs to ensure long-term meals safety throughout the continent.
Zulum made this name whereas addressing individuals on the sixth Version of African Regional Convention of the Worldwide Fee on Irrigation and Drainage (ICID), held in Abuja on Monday.
The Governor emphasised the pressing want for strategic reforms and investments in Africa’s agricultural sector.
“To feed ourselves sustainably, we should rethink how we develop our meals. Transitioning from rain-dependent programs to resilient, water-smart approaches is crucial”, he stated.
The Governor added that this concerned embracing climate-smart agriculture and growing environment friendly and inclusive irrigation infrastructure.
Zulum adbocated the necessity to empower analysis establishments, promote innovation, and allow the energetic participation of ladies and youth in agriculture.
