Police arrest 6 for utilizing sick individuals to beg in Anambra, get well money, telephones

A joint safety crew comprising officers from Oba Divisional Police Headquarters and Anambra vigilante operatives have arrested six people suspected of exploiting sick individuals to solicit alms from the general public.

The arrest occurred on April 16, 2025, at 6:30 pm throughout a raid on an uncompleted constructing in Isu village, Oba neighborhood in Idemili South Native Authorities Space of Anambra State.

The suspects, recognized as Doris Basil, 28; Peter Ezedike, 38; Susan Monday, 27; Ogechi Okoro, 27; Solomon Sunday, 29; and Kenneth Achi, 29, have been discovered with six cell phones and N82,400 in small denominations.

4 sick people affected by mind tumor, breast most cancers and different terminal diseases have been rescued and supplied first support.

Preparations are underway for his or her medical therapy and protected return residence.

Commissioner of Police, CP Ikioye Orutugu, condemned the exploitation of susceptible people, citing Part 419 of the Nigerian Felony Code, which carries a penalty of as much as three years imprisonment.

Relations of the sick individuals can be investigated to find out their involvement.

The suspects will face court docket motion after investigations, in response to an announcement by the state police Public Relations Officer (PPRO).
