Kevin Williamson on Neve Campbell, Sidney Storyline

Kevin Williamson is opening up about working with Neve Campbell once more on “Scream 7.”
Williamson, who wrote the unique script for 1996’s “Scream,” has by no means directed the franchise, however got here again for the upcoming movie for a number of causes — first, due to the story.
“The company pitched it to me because they said, ‘This is going to be about Sidney Prescott. It needs to be about Sidney.’ That’s why I would want to do it,” he defined throughout a profession retrospective on Friday on the ATX TV Festival, offered by Universal Studio Group. “I do think there’s a world we haven’t tapped into — we’ve never gone home with her, who she is today, and we don’t know what her life is about. I want to know those things.”
He then mirrored a bit about why Campbell is again. After returning for 2022 “Scream,” she didn’t seem in “Scream 6,” noting that the wage “did not equate to the value I have brought to the franchise.” At the time, Williamson was vocal about his perception that she deserved more cash.
“There was this big thing about the pay discrepancy, but it was also about the part. It was like, ‘You want me to show up at the end of a movie with a gun and help everyone shoot Ghostface? That’s great. I’ll do it.’ She was happy, but she’d also wanted a part. Actresses want to play parts,” he stated in the course of the panel. “So we were able to tap into that and find a way in. Working with Neve, we did it together. She was with me every step of the way, and she was so supportive and so helpful. She walked me through a lot of it. I hope it shows, but we had a blast.”
“Scream 7” is written by Guy Busick, from a narrative by James Vanderbilt and Busick. It is about to be launched in February 2026.
